North Carolina Central (25-8), winners of the MEAC Conference, will play UC Davis (22-12, 11-5 Big West) in Dayton Wednesday with the victor advancing to play No. 1 Kansas (28-4, 16-2 Big 12) in Tulsa Friday.
The Gamecocks will face Marquette, a No. 10 seed, in Greenville on Friday. The victor of that East Regional opener will likely face No. 2 seed Duke, which opens against No. 15 seed Troy. UNC has played in a NCAA-record 19 Final Fours.
No. 8 Arkansas and No. 9 Seton Hall completed the Greenville bracket.
After winning the MEAC to get into the tournament, North Carolina Central University is a 16 seed and will play University of California, Davis in the First Four in Dayton on Tuesday. Those in favor of giving Duke a top seed felt as though their injuries and the absence of Mike Krzyzewski would be forgiven by the committee in favor of their tournament run and wins over top RPI teams.
