"I would like to officially state that the body is definitely Kim Jong-nam", he said without elaborating on how the DNA samples were obtained.

Kim Jong Nam, who had been living in the Chinese territory of Macau under Beijing's protection, had spoken out publicly against his family's dynastic control of the isolated, nuclear-armed North Korea.

The comparable figure showed an upward trend in recent years with 36 in 2010, 39 in 2014 and 41 in 2016, but declined to 39 as Malaysia and Singapore recently revoked visa-free benefits for North Koreans this year, Radio Free Asia said, citing Henley & Partners's 2017 Visa Restrictions Index.

Malaysian police have identified eight North Koreans wanted for questioning in connection with the killing of Kim Jong Nam, some of them hiding in the North Korean embassy.

The killing triggered a bitter diplomatic spat between Malaysia and North Korea, with each country expelling each other's ambassadors and refusing to allow each other's citizens to leave.

"We have now established that Kim Chol is Kim Jong Nam", local press quoted Khalid Abu Bakar as saying at the time.

Kim Jong Nam is known to have at least three children, Kim Han Sol, who was recently said to have featured in a short video about his father's death, as well as another son and daughter.

It is reported that the North Korean workers are mainly in businesses including coal mining and construction.

According to Zahid, Malaysia has sought the return of nine of its citizens stranded in North Korea through high-level talks with North Korea since Monday.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the new VIP facilities of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here Wednesday. A Vietnamese woman and an Indonesian woman have already been charged in the case. He said anyone including North Korea could ask for such inquiry.
