Ivanka Trump tweets support for Equal Pay Day

Tuesday marks Equal Pay Day, meaning on average women in the USA had to work on all of 2016 until now to catch up to what men earned previous year.

Equal Pay Day was first recognized in 1996.

In time for Equal Pay Day, a national organization has released an analysis that again names Wyoming as the state with the largest gender wage gap in the country.

Equal Pay Day is also always on a Tuesday.

Women earned 79.6 cents for every dollar men made in 2015, according to data from the Census Bureau released past year.

States are offering creative solutions to expand protections for women and close federal loopholes in the fight to end the gender wage gap, NBC News reported.

YWCA CEO Erika Taylor said, "We know that the wage gap is not just a women's issue".

This data comes from an analysis released this week by the National Partnership for Women and Families, that found women employed full-time, year-round across the USA are paid just 80 cents for every dollar paid to men. "That's 18 percent that you're missing out on", Terri Boyer, executive director of the Center for Women and Work at Rutgers, told New Jersey 101.5. The Economic Policy Institute (EPI) has a slightly more optimistic figure, with women earning 83 cents for every dollar a man earns-which translates into $3.27 less per hour based on the median hourly wage.

"When we think about equal pay and the challenge we have to finally level the playing field, I think this will be a very important component when we think about the future", Ivanka said at a White House-organized town hall on Tuesday. Where hopefully soon we will be celebrating women being paid the same as men for the same work. "Even more for women of color". Here in the United States, women make of influence 80% of all consumer spending decisions.

The highest ranking woman in the legislature, Rep. Themis Klarides (R-Derby) says she's in favor of pay equity, but not removing the question about salary history.
