Assad dismisses claims he ordered Idlib attack as 'fabrication'

Prior to his talks with Mr Tillerson, President Putin said on Russian Federation television relations between the two super powers have "deteriorated" under the Trump government. The Trump administration concluded that Assad was behind the act, and on Thursday ordered a cruise missile strike against a Syrian airbase as a "proportional response".

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad says that quite simply Syria did not have chemical weapons, did not use them, and what we saw last Tuesday after the alleged chemical weapon attack was 100 percent fabrication, this has all been concocted by the United States and organisations within Syria working against the government, as an excuse so that the USA could carry out a missile attack on that Syrian airbase.

President Donald Trump painted a bleak picture of U.S. -Russia relations Wednesday, saying that the relationship between the two nations may be at an "all-time low".

United States officials were the first to say they believed Sarin gas was used in the attack, but they offered no concrete evidence. "The world's two foremost nuclear powers can not have this kind of relationship".

Disagreement over Assad's role in the chemical attack remained an area of tension during the press conference.

The proposed resolution would have condemned the alleged attack and expressed the council's full backing to investigators from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). "I have absolutely no doubt we did the right thing, and it was very, very successfully done". Assad asked. "Who committed the attack if there was attack?"

"This is just the latest in a series of the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime", Tillerson said of the April 4 attak". Russia wants the U.S.to eliminate sanctions on Moscow related to its 2014 annexation of Ukraine's Crimea region and support for pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.

"Right now we're not getting along with Russian Federation at all", Trump said flatly during a White House news conference Wednesday.

He said political settlement is the only viable way to resolve the Syrian issue and called for the global community to continue support for the United Nations to play the lead role. However, this appears impossible with the recent confrontations between the countries over Syria, and the ongoing investigations of Russia's alleged interference in the USA presidential elections. Still, the question of removing Assad from power remained a sticking point.

The rhetorical salvos came as US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson received an unusually hostile reception in Moscow. "Russia, as their closest ally in the conflict, perhaps has the best means of helping Assad recognize this reality".

Diplomats said that Russian Federation has put forward a rival draft resolution that expresses concern at last week's gas attack and condemns the U.S. strike on Syria.

Numerous Western powers, including the United States, blamed the government of Bashar al-Assad of the attack.

Lavrov insisted that facts had yet to be determined and Putin accused the Trump administration of fabricating the evidence to create a fake confrontation. Lavrov, however, pointed to the downside of removing a foreign leader.

"We don't know whether those dead children were killed in Khan Sheikhoun", the tyrant said.

Trump's top aides said earlier this month that the President was moved by the photos and video of children suffering from the effects of the chemical attack and that those pictures, in a way, compelled him to take action against the Syrian president.
