"With its various play modes and the innovative features of the Joy-Con controllers, Nintendo Switch provides unique experiences that people can take with them anywhere and share with anyone". A report by the NPD Group reveals that the Switch was the top-selling console in the U.S. during its launch month of March.
Nintendo Switch is undoubtedly the best-selling console to date and is a life-saver for the company after the Wii U's flop. Since the console's launch last month, the Switch has been almost impossible to find on store shelves, and whenever units come in, they're quickly swiped by fast-acting consumers.
The Nintendo Switch game sold more copies than the console itself, IGN notes.
Nintendo also reported that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold 1.5 million copies in the same period of time, with 925,000 of those being of the Switch version of the game. However, since limited edition versions of Breath of the Wild are included in the data, the most likely explanation is that gamers purchased two copies of the game-a collector's edition and a base version to play on the system.More news: Kier Group plc's (KIE) "Buy" Rating Reaffirmed at Berenberg Bank
Nintendo's Switch is now the company's fastest-selling console in the company's history followed by the Wii. In the United States, it seems the Switch version of the game is somehow selling better than the system it's played on.
"Although the Nintendo Switch can be used as a handheld device, we think smaller children could struggle to use it comfortably in that format due to its size and weight".
Nintendo declined to comment on sales outside of the US, saying in a statement that it "is working to make sure everyone who wants a system is able to buy one, and more systems are continually being shipped". Some brick-and-mortar locations might have stock available, though they're few and far between. Nintendo is back... and now we have the sales figures to prove it.
