Entire US Senate to go to White House for North Korea briefing

President Donald Trump has summoned the entire US Senate to the White House for a briefing on North Korea.

A senior Trump administration official said the meeting with senators will take place in the auditorium at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, the building next to the White House that houses most of the National Security Council.

North Korea conducted a big live-fire exercise on Tuesday to mark the foundation of its military, media reported, as a US submarine docked in South Korea in a show of force amid growing concern over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.

House aides said they were working with the White House to set a similar briefing for members of the House of Representatives. He stayed on message - he was in front of the cameras to apologize, he came across as very honest, and he showed, and possibly learned, that is it OK in Washington to admit you are human and are flawed.

Although the White House has downplayed the importance of Saturday's 100-day anniversary, Trump will mark the day with a rally in Pennsylvania. North Korea is still believed to be preparing for its sixth nuclear test.

"We are very proud and the president is very proud of what he's been able to accomplish in the first 100 days ... but we also want to start talking about the next 100 days", Spicer said.

Meanwhile, US commercial satellite images indicated increased activity around North Korea's nuclear test site, while the country said that the country's preparation for and ICBM launch is in its "final stage", Fox News reported.

At least two other US citizens are also in custody in North Korea.

North Korea on Sunday threatened to sink an American aircraft carrier, which had begun joint drills with two Japanese destroyers in the western Pacific Ocean, in a demonstration of its military might.

Asked about the threshold for military action amid concerns dictator Kim Jong Un was on the verge of testing a nuclear weapon, Haley said the USA wasn't looking for a fight "unless he gives us a reason to do something". An Ohio-class guided missile submarine, the USS Michigan, docked at the South Korean naval base of Busan on Tuesday, the United States navy reported, in what was described as "a routine visit".

A North Korean foreign ministry spokesman said those meetings called by USA officials clearly reflected the U.S. He said it's time to "finally solve" this "big world problem".

The latest development comes after Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, spoke on TV on Monday about the Trump administration's "red lines" in the face-off with North Korea.

As Spicer discussed a White House meeting with senators coming up Wednesday where the entire body will be briefed on the situation in North Korea, Garrett began to interject.

China, North Korea's sole major ally, has in turn been angered by Pyongyang's belligerence, as well as its nuclear and missile programs.
