Captive woman found crying in pit in neighbor's shed

An Ohio man with a history of mental issues was arrested Monday for allegedly kidnapping a woman and imprisoning her in a dirt pit under his shed.

Our news partners in Cincinnati, WLWT, is reporting that Dennis Dunn was arrested at 113 Central Avenue at 8:15 a.m.

After a resident reported hearing someone crying early Wednesday morning, officers rescued 30-year-old Jennifer Elliott from a hole in the ground hidden inside a shed, according to WCPO.

A missing woman was found in a pit dug under the floor of a shed in Blanchester, according to local police.

It is now unclear how long the woman was trapped in the shed before she was reported missing.

Dunn couldn't be reached for comment while in custody at the hospital.

Elliott was shaking and appeared to be having a seizure, but police said she showed no outward signs of physical trauma. Neighbors said Dunn lives at the residence. It is not known at this time if he has an attorney who can comment on his behalf. A woman's cries for help from Dunn's shed led to her rescue from a pit in the shed, where police in OH said she was being held captive.

A wooden board covered the opening, with a lawn mower deliberately placed on top to make it impossible for Elliott to escape, police said.

Dunn faces kidnapping charges and is being held in the Clinton County Jail.

Dennis Dunn, from OH, has now been charged with her kidnap.

"Obviously the problem wasn't solved", said Reinbolt, discussing the mental health treatment Dunn received.

"I am angry at a state government that places unsafe, mentally ill people in our neighborhood", he said. They said she hadn't been seen since about 11:30 Tuesday night.

Earlier this month, he was accused of disorderly conduct and marijuana possession. Police said he had repeatedly called them to his home because he heard voices or thought people were trying to get in. The responding officers took him to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation but he was later released. An officer responded and found no one there but Dunn.
