Sandalwood graduate DeMarcus Walker drafted by Broncos in second round

Former McDonogh 35 and Louisiana Tech player Carlos Henderson was taken by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the NFL Draft Friday.

Broncos selected Coastal Carolina RB De'Angelo Henderson with the No. 203 overall pick in the 2017 National Football League draft. His 2016 season saw him rack up 68 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a blocked extra point to preserve a rivalry victory over Miami.

And it doesn't end there.

The New Orleans native was also a return specialist for the Bulldogs over his three-year career with a total of 36 kick returns for 2,094 yards and three kicks returned for touchdowns, including two during the 2016 season. Both of the Broncos third-round picks, Henderson and Langley, are excellent returners. He had two punt returns for touchdowns previous year.

The best part about all of this?

On day three, the Broncos will have six picks to complete their draft: one each in the 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds, in addition to three 7th round selections.

"You have to figure out what characteristics do you like the best and which ones can we help them with", Elway said.

"You want guys with a tough, winning mentality", coach Vance Joseph said. After he was selected by the Broncos, Walker tweeted: "8 rushers got picked before me". "Guys went off and we stayed true to our board and DeMarcus was the top guy on our board when we got there so when that happens and it falls that way it's pretty darn good".

As the NFL Draft neared its completion, the Denver Broncos used selection 203 in the sixth round on running back De'Angelo Henderson of Coastal Carolina. "If you touch my receiver, you touch my quarterback, you touch anyone on my team or my organization, it's like touching my wife; you're going to get in trouble by me".

"I was born to play this game", said Henderson, who caught 82 passes for 1,535 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2016 and can relieve pressure on Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. His future as the Broncos' fourth cornerback will require development, but his 4.43-second 40-yard dash speed will be coveted by special- teams coordinator Brock Olivo.

After serving a Mormon church mission in Colorado Springs for a couple of years, Bolles chose to give football another shot, and earned a scholarship to play at Snow College for two years before packing his bags and signing with Utah.
