CAPTURED - Escaped Delaware Prisoner Sentenced To Over 100 Years Has Been Captured

David Watson was located after police launched an aerial and ground search in Jessup where the 28-year-old was last seen after escaping while being transported to the Clifton T. Perkins Psychiatric Hospital.

Authorities said Watson was found hiding in a drainage pipe in Jessup, Md., on Wednesday, May 3, 3017.

After several days on the run, a prisoner who escaped the custody of officers last week in Maryland was captured Wednesday night, police said.

The search for Watson began Friday.

Watson sustained minor injuries and scrapes during his time in the woods but was otherwise in good condition when taken back into custody.

While initial searches included dogs and helicopter searches, police said that Wednesday's area checks involved rechecking the terrain.

Police do not know whether Watson had planned the escape or had any help.

Watson is also scheduled for a bail review hearing at 11 a.m.in the District Court for Howard County. He told police he ate from trashcans and drank from puddles.

David Watson, 28, is serving a 106-year sentence at Wicomico County Detention Center in DE for attempted murder, after shooting at three police officers' homes in 2012.

Authorities said Watson fled after pushing one of the guards after they had opened the door to the van. He is now in the custody of Howard County police and has been taken to Howard County central booking.

All day, Bloodhounds, K9 units, tactical teams and law enforcement officers scoured the area. Watson had previously been found incompetent to stand trial. The officers found Watson lying down inside the small pipe, about a few hundred yards from the sighting Wednesday morning.

Watson is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds. He is also charged with attempted murder on the Eastern Shore, where authorities say he shot at two officers' homes. Police have found leg irons and handcuffs belonging to the escapee.

The U.S. Marshals took the lead on the investigation for Watson earlier this week.

The search comes after an inmate wanted for attempted murder escaped Friday from the parking lot of the state-run psychiatric hospital in the 8400 block of Dorsey Run Road. He was last seen in the woods in the area of Dorsey Run Road and is wearing all white clothing, with no markings or emblems.
