The Launch Of Sony's PlayStation5 May Be Sooner Than Expected

The Launch Of Sony's PlayStation5 May Be Sooner Than Expected

The Xbox One Scorpio is supposed to be releasing sometime around the holidays of this year.

For a limited time, both retailers are throwing in the PlayStation 4 Camera with purchase of the core PlayStation VR headset, which now goes for $399.

Sony's gaming division was the most successful of all of its different branches throughout the last fiscal year. It never hurts to shop around and see what other great PlayStation VR games there already are on the market, with several more to come in the months ahead. After all, Sony past year released a mild PlayStation update with the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro signaling that it's more than ready to refresh its newest console to better compete against Microsoft.

Even though PS4 got what could be termed as a mid-cycle refresh in 2016 with the launch of the PlayStation 4 Pro, it appears as though Sony is prepping to launch the next-generation PS as early as next year.

More news: Comey: Russia Will Try To Meddle In Elections Again

Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong predicted that the PlayStation 5 would arrive in the second half of 2018.

Although it may just be a rumour that Sony is working on a new console, it is one backed by an analyst that has a proven track-record in the past. The game will also not be based on the upcoming "Spider-Man" movie, "Spider-Man: Homecoming", nor on any of the comics, according to the Playstation Blog. Using the same architecture will also allow the PlayStation 5 to have backward compatibility with older PlayStation titles.

One of the chief complaints of the Xbox One is that it didn't have better graphics than the Playstation 4, which is one of the reasons (aside from more exclusives and less controversy on its announcement) that the Playstation 4 has sold better than the Xbox One.

However, Sony has not officially confirmed the PlayStation 5, so information regarding its release date and specs should be taken with a grain of salt.
