AAP hacked 'look-alike' gadget, not our EVM: EC

AAP hacked 'look-alike' gadget, not our EVM: EC

Mishra, who was suspended from AAP's primary membership yesterday, mocked the exercise, saying the party should stop living in "denial" mode and accept the fact that people do not vote for Kejriwal anymore.

The AAPs attempt to whip up the issue comes at a time when it is in the eye of a political storm after its sacked minister Kapil Mishras allegations of corruption against Kejriwal and minister Satyendar Jain.

Interestingly, leaders of the Congress, the Trinamool Congress, the Janata Dal (United) and the Rastriya Janata Dal were present on the gallery of the House when Bhardwaj staged the demonstration.

The AAP leader said the EC's inquiry report into allegations of EVM tampering in the assembly elections held this year had not explained anything.

"All it takes to rig an EVM is to change the motherboard". He claimed the EVM machines can be tampered with easily and proved it by demonstrating a mock test on the machine.

"We have said that EC should give us an EVM".

"When MCD poll results were announced I had said that we did not lose because of EVM machines".

BJP called the hack "demonstration" a "drama".

According to Bhardwaj, of 10 votes polled in favour of AAP during the demonstration eight went to the BJP.

"He (Bhardwaj) showed how easy it is to hack EVMs and it is being done on a massive scale".

"EVM tampering is a very serious issue because several freedom fighters had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of this country". Maken said, adding, "The AAP lost deposit in Rajouri by-polls where VVPAT and paper-trail was used".

Bhardwaj displayed how a manipulator posing as a voter could use simple codes to make any candidate win, claimed AAP. "But I want to tell that EVM manipulation is a bitter truth which sooner or later have to be accepted", he said.

Bhardwaj, who has ten years of experience working with embedded systems, was chosen to demonstrate how EVM tampering is possible as the Election Commission (EC) has always maintained that these machines can not be tampered with during an actual election process due to the many safeguards in place. Election Commission of India (ECI) had recently issued a statement stating that in the May 12 meeting, all issues relating to EVMs, change the way recount of votes would be done using paper trail data, making bribery in elections a cognisable offence and candidates' disqualification who are charge-sheeted for electoral bribery would be discussed.

The BJP said that instead of replying to corruption charges, Kejriwal remained silent.

She had pointed to the BJP's vote share in Muslim majority areas to substantiate her argument that that it would not have been possible for the saffron party to get that many votes in those areas, if not for EVM fraud.
