Trump does not think USA should copy Australia's health system: White House

Bernie Sanders, one of the most vocal single-payer proponents, was quite pleased with Trump's comment (even if the president was completely ignorant of Australia's health care).

She says the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, has more similarities to the Australian health care system than the GOP's plan does.

Trump had raised eyebrows the day before, when he praised Australia's health care model while meeting with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in NY.

During the meeting, Trump promised the AHCA would bring "fantastic health care" to millions of Americans now suffering under Obamacare. "Again, he was complimenting the prime minister and we're focused on a healthcare plan that works here". Sanders, who has previously offered to work with Trump on health care, literally burst into laughter.

"The two presidents are obviously very different men", the prime minister told reporters on Friday just before flying back to Australia. "The Australian healthcare system provides healthcare to all of its people at a fraction of the cost than we do", Sanders commented on Twitter. "You've flown over halfway across the world, he's stuck in some waiting room in NY and he's been snubbed by the president of the U.S".

"I think he believes that they have a good healthcare system for Australia". It also required them to cover 10 essential health benefits such as maternity care and prescription drugs. The Republican bill passed on Thursday would allow states to opt out of those provisions.

"You guys exaggerated that call", the business mogul said of the media during a meeting with Turnbull, 62, aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.

Mr Trump also tweeted on Saturday that "everybody" had better health care than the United States, but the system would "soon be great".

While more than 130 million Americans are enrolled in some form of government coverage, such as Medicare and Medicaid, the majority of non-elderly people get private health insurance through a job.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale said it was embarrassing that Turnbull had to wait hours for Trump.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull are aiming to put a rocky start behind when they meet for the first time and commemorate the 75th anniversary of an important World War II battle.

House Republicans didn't even wait for the CBO to score its final version of a bill they passed that would remake one sixth of the economy and effect nearly every American.
