Trump's lawyers say his tax returns show few Russia dealings

Lindsey GrahamLindsey GrahamAn ode to imports - the critically undervalued side of trade Trump lawyers: Tax returns show no income from Russian Federation with few exceptions GOP senators pitch Merrick Garland for Federal Bureau of Investigation director MORE (R-S.C.), as White House press secretary Sean Spicer stated at Tuesday's press briefing.

President Donald Trump's lawyers, in a letter released on Friday, said that a review of the last 10 years of Trump's tax returns revealed that "with a few exceptions" he has had no income from Russian sources - which, effectively, confirmed that Trump has received some income from Russian sources in the past 10 years.

Trump and his aides have been promising for several days that they would send a certified letter from Trump's attorneys to Graham showing that the president has no business ties with Russian Federation. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump released some returns from 2005.

Trump's lawyers argue that the amount of money from Russian sources coming from this last exception is "immaterial", though they provide no evidence to back up this claim.

The letter, which is dated March 8, emphasizes that Russians neither hold equity or debt investments in any entities held by Trump or The Trump Organization, but also acknowledged that it was likely that Russians "engaged in ordinary course sales of goods or services", paying for things like "hotel rooms, rounds of golf, books or Trump-licensed products (e.g. ties, mattresses, wine, etc.)".

In addition, the returns show no Russian investments in Trump's businesses or any investment by Trump or the entities he controls in Russian businesses, the lawyers said. "I had it in Moscow long time ago, but other than that I have nothing to do with Russian Federation", he said, referring to the pageant.

Congressional Democrats have repeatedly pushed the tax return issue in Congress.

"Maybe I'll release them after I'm finished because I'm very proud of them actually".

The latest happenings of President Donald Trump.

Trump's presidency has been overshadowed by allegations of collusion between aides and Russian officials.

Addressing allegations that his financial tie to Russian Federation could be hidden in the tax documents he won't make public, the president said there are none. That leaves open questions about whether there were financial dealings with Russian Federation in earlier years.

In an interview with The Economist, he was asked whether he would release his returns in exchange for Democratic support for tax reform. In April, they started an effort to force a House floor vote on a bill to require presidents and presidential nominees to disclose their tax returns.
