Bernie Sanders Laughs at Trump's Comment to Australian PM

"I shouldn't say this to my great gentleman and friend from Australia because you have better health care than we do".

"We acknowledged and thanked those great veterans of the Battle of the Coral Sea, that battle where Australian and American sailors and aviators turned the tide of war".

President Trump doubled down on his praise of Australia's single-payer healthcare system on Friday, declaring that not only does it have better healthcare than the USA - the whole world does.

On MSNBC, Senator Bernie Sanders raucously laughed at Mr Trump's comments. And, amid the praise for fallen American and Australian soldiers, Trump also took the time to praise one Australian who has helped boost his own career: Rupert Murdoch, the billionaire chairman of News Corp., which owns Fox News.

"[Trump] was simply being complimentary of the prime minister and I don't think it was much more than that", she said.

"It was a wonderful, warm evening of thanks and recognition of those veterans, and of course it was great for Lucy and I to meet with the President and Mrs Trump", Mr Turnbull told reporters at a press conference in NY on Friday.

During the meeting, Trump promised the AHCA would bring "fantastic health care" to millions of Americans now suffering under Obamacare.

Australia's healthcare system has been put at the heart of a tense U.S. debate, the same day it moved further away from universal coverage.

The tweet was accompanied by a video detailing Australia's medicare system, saying it guarantees better service at half the price of U.S. healthcare. "Right now Obamacare is failing; we have a failing healthcare".

The president triggered astonishment and glee by drawing the comparison in Australia's favour during a meeting with prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, hours after the House narrowly passed a bill to repeal parts of Obamacare.

"The President was complimenting a foreign leader on the operations of their healthcare system and it didn't mean anything more than that", Deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders said.

Together, the United States and Australia are building a more secure and stable world. "And let's move - maybe he wants to take a look at the Canadian system or systems throughout Europe".

Far from it, as the White House has since clarified. I think I know the gospel pretty well and I'd say The CBO is not the gospel. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reviewed an earlier version of the bill and found that it would leave 24 million more people uninsured by 2026 than under current law. "Thank goodness, it's true we had a very nice phone call". "It's not getting through the Senate".
