Ex-US NSA Michael Flynn ordered to hand over Russia probe documents

Law360, Washington (May 11, 2017, 6:01 PM EDT) - Embattled former national security adviser Michael Flynn has been issued a subpoena by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence for documents related to the panel's inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 election, committee leaders said Wednesday.

Sen. Richard Burr, the Republican chairman, and Sen.

Asked again late last month in a CBS News interview whether he believes Russian Federation tried to interfere in the election, Trump said "I don't know..."

"My White House counsel, Don McGahn, came back to me and did not sound like an emergency", Trump told NBC News.

Flynn has become a major focus of several congressional investigations into Russian Federation and the election. The person "we don't even know" referred to Sally Yates, who happens to be the Justice Department official that Trump named as acting Attorney General.

President Donald Trump said one of the reasons why his administration kept national security adviser Michael Flynn on for 18 days after being briefed on his questionable conduct with Russian operatives, Trump said it was because the reports "did not sound like an emergency".

"Director Clapper reiterated what everybody, including the fake media already knows-there is "no evidence" of collusion w/Russia and Trump".

The announcement comes one day after the Trump administration fired James Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director, citing his handling of a probe into Hillary Clinton's emails as the reason for his termination.

In an email, Mr Flynn's lawyer Robert Kelner said they had no comment at this time on the subpoena.

Mr Comey's sacking prompted a storm of criticism from Democrats, who accused the president of seeking to stall the probe. McCabe was testifying in place of former FBI Director James Comey, who was sacked by President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

"I hold Director Comey in the absolute highest regard", McCabe said.

The interview on Fox comes after a week of intense scrutiny of Trump following his unexpected dismissal of Comey.

On Wednesday, Democratic senators Dianne Feinstein and Richard Durbin told United States media that Mr Comey had asked the deputy attorney general for more resources - mainly staff - for the FBI investigation.

But accounts emerging of the firing put the Russian Federation investigation - and not the one about Clinton - centre-stage and said that Comey and in recent days sought more resources and manpower for it.
