"My wife Lisa and I offer our honest condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Mason Moore". He was a 3 year veteran of the sheriff's office.

Moore was shot less than 2 miles from where Montana Highway Patrol Trooper David DeLaittre was killed near Three Forks in December 2010.

According to the Gallatin County Sheriff's office, the suspects have been identified and are in custody in Missoula County. Marshall Barrus, 38, was shot in the head, Lester said.

Missoula County authorities tell the Missoulian that the driver, 61-year-old Lloyd Barrus, was arrested on suspicion of deliberate homicide. Barrus is the father of the other suspect, Gootkin said.

The name of the deputy killed is not being released at this time.

Deputy Mason Moore was involved in the pursuit along U.S. Highway 287 near Three Forks around 3 a.m. when the shooting occurred, according to The Bozeman Daily Chronicle.

The suspect vehicle was spotted near Anaconda. Butte-Silver Bow officers continued to pursue the vehicle westbound on I-90 through Deer Lodge County and Powell County and into Granite County. The driver of the SUV has been arrested and a passenger was shot by law enforcement and taken to the hospital.

Butte-Silver Bow County Sheriff Ed Lester says the suspects fired shots at officers who pursued the vehicle across parts of five counties. The vehicle was spike striped at mile marker 162 in Powell County but was able to continue on I-90.
