Report of multiple casualties in incident on London Bridge

A BBC reporter who was on the bridge at the time said the van was being driven at around 50 miles per hour by a male suspect.

"One of them had a big knife, then he came in and walked around the restaurant, I guess they just kind of stabbed anyone that they saw and knocked things on the ground and then we just hid".

A photo was also published of another man being arrested in the Vauxhall area of London, although police are now saying that the Vauxhall incident is not related to the coordinated terrorist attacks in London at London Bridge and Borough Market.

Another eyewitness told Reuters that she saw at least three people with apparent knife wounds.

Three men reportedly mowed pedestrians down on London Bridge.

At least 20 patients were taken to area hospitals after London police responded Saturday night to two "terrorist incidents" following reports of a vehicle plowing into pedestrians on London Bridge as well as reports of stabbings at Borough Market.

"This is a fast moving investigation". He said: "I could see on my left a further individual was having CPR performed on them by the emergency services". Our thoughts are with those who are caught up in these awful events.

British authorities provided no immediate information on the likely source of the attacks, but May said in a statement: "I can confirm that the bad incident in London is being treated as a potential act of terrorism".

President Donald Trump wasted no time using another terrorist attack in London to argue for US courts to reinstate his travel ban focused on people from predominantly Muslim countries.

Some witnesses reported seeing as many as three attackers, a figure not confirmed by police.

Twenty people were taken to six hospitals, according to emergency services and some unconfirmed reports say up to seven people were killed.

British media reported that more than one person had been killed in the rampage. Armed officers responded and shots have been fired.

Frightened people were led up Southwark Street away from Southwark Bridge Road, and police officers were seen screaming to people and ordering them to run.

London Bridge tube and rail stations were closed and police just before 11:30 p.m. moved pedestrians away from the area. There is video up on Twitter of police going into a restaurant and yelling at people to stay on the ground.

Another witness, who was in the cafe, said a man with a "massive knife" entered Elliot's Cafe at Borough Market, just south of the bridge, and stabbed two people inside.

A third police unit was sent to the Vauxhall area.

May said that "following updates from police and security officials, I can confirm that the awful incident in London is being treated as a potential act of terrorism".

He told Sky News: "It was about 10.15pm I was in the back of an Uber cab driving over London Bridge.there was somebody down on the pavement with a small crowd around them clearly very concerned about their welfare".

London Metropolitan Police have said only that they are dealing with an incident on the bridge, and London Mayor Sadiq Khan tweeted that people should follow police on Twitter for updates.

"He swerved right round me and then hit about five or six people". Police told everyone to run. He also suggested that the attack was clearly terrorism and not any kind of accident, calling them "a deliberate and cowardly attack on innocent Londoners and visitors to our city".

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been affected.

Speaking to the Press Association, Will Orton described being in a pub in the area and seeing people coming running inside.

"I condemn it in the strongest possible terms".

"Paramedics had [the injured] on their sides, it was a bloody scene", she said.
