May's top aides resign after UK election fiasco

According to media accounts, internal pressure on May led to the resignation on 10 June of the Prime Minister's two co-chiefs of staff, Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill, who have been blamed for their role in designing the Conservatives' campaign and the parliamentary setback.

May remains in 10 Downing Street with a much diminished power base after her Conservative party fell short of an overall majority in the House of Commons, the lower house of the United Kingdom parliament, as the general election results threw up a hung Parliament yesterday.

The nursery worker said he was "angry" that Mrs May had done a deal with the DUP, although he admitted he did not initially know who they were.

If she is to succeed in delivering the wishes of 52 percent of the public and take Britain out of the European Union, she must find a way to secure the full support of her party to pass legislation preparing for and enacting the departure.

"It is quite possible there will be an election later this year or early next year and that might be a good thing because we can not go on with a period of great instability", Corbyn told the BBC.

Britain's typically pro-Conservative press questioned whether she could remain in power with the clock ticking on the two-year European Union divorce process.

"Theresa May is a dead woman walking".

The right-wing British press speculated Sunday that Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, a former journalist and the former Mayor of London, was plotting a leadership coup.

Mr Osborne, who was sacked by Mrs May and now is editor of the London Evening Standard, said there was now no majority in the Commons for a "hard Brexit".

The new arithmetic of the House of Commons will also makes Brexit negotiations more hard.

May wanted to win explicit backing for her stance on Brexit, which involves leaving the EU's single market and imposing restrictions on immigration while trying to negotiate free trade deal with the bloc.

The 27-year-old said: "May's mandate has gone, that's probably the best news and Labour is gaining - that is the best news as well".

He has also said that people will "look back at this whole climate change debate and ask ourselves how on Earth we were ever conned into spending billions of pounds".

A deal between the government and the DUP could also unsettle the precarious balance between Northern Ireland's British loyalist and Irish nationalist parties, whose power-sharing administration in Belfast collapsed earlier this year.

The Good Friday Agreement was a major development in the peace process of the 1990s that brought peace to the region after decades of conflict.

Republican Sinn Fein won seven seats but historically hasn't taken them up in the London chamber.

With opinion polls showing the Conservatives had a commanding lead over the opposition Labour Party, May called an early election in hopes of increasing her majority in Parliament and strengthening her position in Brexit negotiations. She was criticized for refusing to take part in a televised leaders' debate and for carefully controlling her campaign activities to keep the public at arm's length.

If May had won a majority last Thursday, she would have been converting the policy agenda in the Conservative election manifesto into laws in the Queen's Speech.

In a statement after returning from Buckingham Palace, where she received the Queen's permission to form a government, May shrugged off a growing backlash in the Conservative Party, and said she would provide the "certainty" the country needed.

"They (the DUP) are going to support us on the big Brexit, economic and security issues facing this country", he said.

Since the election, most of the members of her cabinet have kept quiet on the issue of May's future, adding to speculation that her days as prime minister might be numbered.
