North Korea expecting visit from former NBAer Dennis Rodman

Sporting a baseball cap, sunglasses, multiple facial piercings and a black t-shirt emblazoned with the logo of sponsor PotCoin - a cryptocurrency for the legal cannabis industry - Rodman posted a photo of himself on Twitter smiling and waving his ticket on the North's flag carrier Air Koryo.

It came amid heightened tensions between Washington and Pyongyang, which is now detaining four Americans.

At the time of his visit, an American citizen, Kenneth Bae, was being held by North Korea on charges that he had planned an operation to topple North Korea's government with religious activities. A North Korean diplomat at the United Nations disputed this, saying that Rodman had not been invited by the foreign ministry but by a sports-related agency. He adds, "Though Rodman appeared on Trump's reality show and endorsed him for president, analysts don't think he is acting as a back channel conduit between the two countries".

When asked if he had spoken to Trump at all, Rodman said, "I'm pretty sure he's happy at the fact that I'm over here trying to accomplish something that we both need".

The trip generated a lot of negative press for Rodman and his visit; not for what he did, but for what he didn't say. "Thanks to my sponsor".

The objective of his visit to North Korea is unknown, but CNN said that the U.S. State Department says he is not going to visit the North in any official U.S. capacity.

He has previously referred to Kim as a friend and a "very good guy".

North Korean officials confirmed to CNN Rodman's arrival in Pyongyang but did not give any details of the visit. Trump fired Rodman in both seasons.

But relations between Pyongyang and Washington were considerably less tense in 2013 than they have been in recent months. Pyongyang is holding four Americans hostage, and the regime continues to test ballistic missiles, despite repeated warnings from the Trump administration.

The young dictator and the former star athlete bonded over a mutual love of basketball, something Kim likely inherited from his father.

Madeleine Albright, the US Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton, brought the older Kim a basketball autographed by Michael Jordan during a visit in 2000.

He won five league championships with Detroit and Chicago and is a member of basketball's Hall of Fame.

"I come in peace".

The drone found last week has twin engines and flew farther than those discovered in 2014, which had single engines, the Defense Ministry said, suggesting that North Korea is pushing to upgrade its drone arsenal.

Rodman has been known to travel to the North at least four times. The game ended 110 to 110.

In a separate interview conducted after his trip in 2014, Rodman seemed to express remorse over the trip that spurred public condemnation for his overtly friendly ties with Jong Un.
