Severe Weather Chances Increased Today and Tomorrow

Following a period of volatile weather that included tornadoes across the Upper Midwest on Wednesday, the threat for severe storms will shift southward into Thursday night.

The first round of storms will push out by mid-morning. These Friday morning storms now look like they could have a little more potential to produce severe weather, particularly strong or even damaging winds. The storms may start out as scattered severe thunderstorms in the late afternoon and early evening hours. This redevelopment is likely to initially be centered over NE Oklahoma into SW Missouri, and then gradually move into NWAR.

A few severe storms to impact southeast Colorado today. If storms do pop, the main threats will be heavy rain, large hail and high winds.

Overnight Wednesday into Thursday, the chances remain 70 percent for showers and storms, again with possible rain totals of a quarter- to half-inch, as temperatures stay steady at 74.

Thursday and Friday timing and placement of storms is hard, and they could occur anywhere across our area, but the best chances appears to be later afternoon into the evening hours along and south of Interstate-80.

We are gearing up for another possible severe weather day in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.

"Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon through evening", said the outlook issued by the National Weather Service Binghamton office. Winds S 5-15, gusting around 20 miles per hour. The threat is expected to be slightly more widespread in areas of northeastern Colorado than farther north as instability should be limited with northward extent.
