Djokovic Defeats Medvedev To Reach Eastbourne Final

Top seed Djokovic, playing the week before Wimbledon for the first time since 2010, brushed aside Medvedev 6-4, 6-4 and will face second seed Gael Monfils in Saturday's final, after the Frenchman edged out fellow countryman Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (7/4). After losing in the French Open quarterfinals, and needing a fillip, he chose to play a grass event before Wimbledon for the first time in seven years, and received a wild card for his first trip to Eastbourne.

Djokovic will play Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament on England's south coast, after the Russian player beat fourth-seeded Steve Johnson 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Caroline Wozniacki extinguished British hopes in the women's draw, knocking out Heather Watson to reach the final after a back injury forced Johanna Konta to withdraw.

The Czech was the beaten finalist previous year.

Karolina Pliskova gave herself the flawless pre-Wimbledon tonic by lifting the women's title, defeating Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 6-4 in impressive style.

Djokovic is a three-time Wimbledon champion but has not been in the best of form recently. I was also in final. "I didn't really expect this start of the grass-court season, but it gave me a lot of confidence coming to London". "That's what happened, and it came out that I got the title".

Wozniacki, a former world No 1, did her best in her 46th final of an excellent career. "I had trouble getting the serves back", she said, "but its great preparation before Wimbledon".

The 26-year-old said, "It was definitely a good battle out there". I moved well, too.
