'China will have to take military way if India doesn't listen'

Calling India's actions at the Sikkim border a "betrayal", China on Monday reiterated that the boundary section between the two countries was well demarcated. "For America, the weapons deal will not only reap enormous monetary gains from India, but also strengthen India's advantage in the Indo-Pacific region to check China", the article in the Global Times said.

Due to differing territorial perceptions, India and China disagree on large parts of the border, with India frequently reporting Chinese transgressions on to its territory, which China claims as its own.

China's Ambassador to India, Luo Zhaohui, told news agency PTI that withdrawal of Indian troops from the area is a "precondition" to any resolution. The road would head towards the Bhutan army camp and would come in the way of distinguishing a boundary between India and China. According to latest reports, at least 13 Chinese naval units were detected in the Indian Ocean over the last two months, The Times of Indiasaid - ostensibly in the name of anti-piracy operations.

China and India have been engaged in a standoff in the Doka La area near the Bhutan trijunction for nearly a month.

Geng also claimed that Bhutan "did not know that Indian border troops had entered into the Doklam area which is not in line with what has been claimed by the Indian side".

"India can not encroach upon the territory of other countries on the ground of its "security concerns".

The situation is tense in Doka La in Sikkim sector of India-China border as Beijing has refused to back off from its plan to build a road in a disputed area. The corridor, sometime referred to as the "Chicken's Neck", is a narrow slice of Indian territory squeezed between Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and China.

"It could have voiced its concerns and opinions on public occasions or in official statements as China is always willing to discuss all problems and possibilities with India on the basis of mutual benefits", it said.

The Global Times write-up said India chalked out its moves ahead of Modi's United States visit to impress Tump and the U.S. administration, the report said.

"Experts also scoffed at India's military threat after Indian Defense Minister Arun Jaitely asserted on Friday that the India of 2017 is different from what it was in 1962", said the report in the daily, known for its nationalist stance.

Jaitley, who responded to Chinas oblique reference to the war the two countries had fought 55 years ago and asking India to learn from “historic lessons”, had said, “If they are trying to remind us, the situation in 1962 was different and India of 2017 is different.”.

"India should change its hostile attitude toward China as a good relationship is beneficial for both sides", Wang Dehua further adds. As the tiny Himalayan Kingdom was not party to the 1890 agreement between Britain and China, a dispute remains between China and Bhutan over where their common border lies.

A local commanders-level meeting is expected to happen soon though the last two attempts to convene such a meeting were rejected by the Chinese side. India must start to question China's purportedly historical claim to Tibet itself.

Council on Foreign Relations senior fellow Ely Ratner told CNN the current dispute was an indication of the challenges China faces as a global leader.
