The Heat will remove the number 1 of Chris Bosh

The Heat officially waived Bosh on Tuesday, retiring his jersey in the process and inciting reaction on social media from members of the original Big Three as well as others who played alongside him over the years. Doctors have yet to clear Bosh to return to the National Basketball Association, and while he has expressed an interest in continuing his career, it is beginning to look like this release may force the All-Star power forward into retirement. Under the rules, had Bosh been able to successfully return, the Heat could've seen Bosh's salary returned to their books.

As cap expert Albert Nahmad notes, Bosh will still be paid the $52.1 million remaining salary, with $28.7 million of that being covered by insurance and the rest paid by the Heat. This is vital as the team looks to sign free agents when the league's moratorium period ends at the end of the week.

The 33-year-old American forward, who also won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has averaged 19.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2 assists per game during his career. The All-Star trio would combine to lead the Heat to four consecutive Finals, with championships in 2012 and 2013. "And he changed our lives for the better, in a way we never would have imagined, when he joined the Miami HEAT". He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise.

Bosh's release came of little surprise after he missed all of last season and half of the 2015-16 season due to life-threatening blood clots.
