The Rock's presidency gets one step closer to reality

Johnson has spoken about running for president for a while now, sometimes jokingly, sometimes serious.

"While hosting Saturday Night Live in May, Johnson portrayed a musclebound Barack Obama, and has been photographed standing behind a podium that read "'The Rock Johnson' 2020".

The Rock's real name on the filing has raised eyebrows, with some begging the question whether the creator of the "People's Elbow" will launch a run for the White House in 2020.

"Run the Rock 2020" was filed Sunday (9 July) on behalf of Johnson with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), official records show.

It's real. It's on the books.

Fanciful as it might sound (even in an era where Donald Trump is president), the possibility of Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock, becoming the next president of the United States took its first steps towards reality this week.

The paperwork was filed by Kenton Tilford from West Virginia.

"With this level of vitriol and anger, I believe we desperately need a leader who can unite us and not just pander to a small base of supporters". (Vanity Fair has reached out to his representatives for comment.) But you don't have to look far to see that the guy has been dropping hints like insane. He continued: "Leadership would be important. Taking responsibility for everybody".

Now, according to The Hill (via Rolling Stone), a campaign committee has formally filed to draft Johnson for president.

He continued, "When my goal was to transition from wrestling to film I was told: "You'll make two or three movies tops, then your career will fizzle out". Especially when you disagree with me", Johnson said.

Johnson claims to be registered independent, and has appeared at both Republican and Democrat conventions in the past. He also said he would truly be a people's president.
