Yankees Send Tyler Webb to Milwaukee for Garrett Cooper

The 26-year-old was first called up to Triple-A in 2014, and has a 3.24 ERA in Triple-A Scranton this season. It's not a major deal, but is one that adds pitching depth to the organization and, potentially, a valuable lefty specialist to the big-league bullpen.

Webb pitched twice against the Brewers last weekend in NY and seven times for the Yankees this season, posting a 4.50 ERA over six innings.

With Greg Bird still injured, the Yankees have not had much luck at first base this year.

The Milwaukee Brewers have made a trade with the New York Yankees.

Webb, 26, was originally selected in the 10th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of the University of SC. He has a low-90s fastball, but also possesses a plus slider, an effective changeup and, as his minor-league walk rate indicates (2.43 walks per nine innings), he locates well.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRider's southpaw Tyler Webb works against the Charlotte Knights at PNC Field in Moosic, Pa. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.

According to a news release from the Brewers, Webb has been assigned to Triple-A Colorado Springs. NY was facing a depth chart after the All-Star break that was headed by rookie Ji-Man Choi and supported by struggling utility infielder Rob Refsnyder and backup catcher Austin Romine. The 26-year-old is batting.366/.428/.652 in 75 games this year with 17 home runs and 82 RBIs. MLB.com didn't have Cooper ranked in its top 30 Brewers prospects.
