"They carry a card identifying them as journalists but they have no official press cards".

British MP David Lammy said the arrest on July 5 of ten human rights activists was the latest evidence of a brutal crackdown by a regime which had become a "dictatorship".

Not only does the complaint target the President, it also mentions the Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and other ministers, Kurdish Question reported.

Between 153 to 170 journalists are now in Turkish prisons, according to various worldwide and local watchdogs. More than 160 media workers are in jail in Turkey, as is the director of Amnesty International's Turkey branch.

"This is how they have organised and attempted the coup as a mob. That is something only the newspaper I work at and a professional journalist organisation can decide".

Around 250 people died during the two days of the coup, including 67 soldiers and police officers loyal to President Erdogan who have been turned into "martyrs" in the past year. The group also says it has "reports of at least 1,035 detentions or arrest warrants issued for higher education personnel, with 776 personnel and students having been physically detained, and at least 393 having been formally subjected to criminal charges since January 2016". A Swedish law passed in 2014 permits judges to review alleged crimes against humanity anywhere in the world, regardless of who committed them.

However, he said lifting of the emergency rule is possible in the near future.

According to the Turkish government, the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) and its USA -based leader Fetullah Gülen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 249 people martyred and almost 2,200 injured.
