Actor Dileep denied bail, Kerala court extends custody

The prosecution had asserted not to give bail to the actor in the wake of various reports surfacing online supporting the actor.

Dileep will be sent to Aluva sub jail.

The court remanded him to judicial custody till July 25. Special Prosecutor A Sureshan has said the prosecution has nothing to hide.

The prosecution submitted that if the actor was granted bail, he might influence the witnesses, which in turn would affect the ongoing inquiry in the case.

It all began when a popular Malayalam actress was abducted on February 17 while she was on her way home after a shoot. His advocate Ramkumar stated that the police move was based only on the statement given by the key accused Pulsar Suni. The actor responded to the court's query that he did not suffer any ill treatment at the hands of the police.

Earlier today, Dileep's counsel submitted two mobile phones, allegedly used by the actor, to the court in a sealed case and sought scientific examination of them.

Police had taken the 48-year-old actor, arrested on July 10, to various places in Kochi, Thrissur and Thodupuzha to carry out their investigation.

Dileep who has been lodged at the Aluva jail will continue to be questioned under custody in the actress abduction and molestation case. Dileep has been remanded till July 25.

She alleged that she was molested and her pictures taken by the abductors who later dropped her by the roadside near the house of a film producer, according to media reports.

After his arrest on the charge of conspiracy, Dileep has been expelled from various film forums, including the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), as the industry rallied behind the actress.
