Watch the First Teaser for 'Pacific Rim 2' & Join the 'Uprising'

Guillermo del Toro's 2013 kaiju vs. robots movie Pacific Rim had a reported $190 million budget, but only earned $101 million at the domestic box office.

John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, Adria Arjona, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi star in the sequel, set to drop February 23, 2018. One, more Mako Mori. Following del Toro's departure, it was announced that former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight would make his feature film debut with "Pacific Rim: Uprising". Luckily, that's not the case, and our first look at Pacific Rim: Uprising has arrived. Danger has a new pilot, John Boyega, but the Jaegers are just as gleefully impractical as ever, what with the swords and the general giant robot tactics.

There's also an in-universe companion site that purports to recruit for the Jaegar program, with some more information (and downloadable blueprints) for the new mechs. Uprising is indeed coming, and now we have the teaser trailer to prove it. Is there some competition for the Jaeger corps in the giant-monster punching department? The new film, Pacific Rim: Uprising, comes from new filmmakers who appear to be moving in a different direction, with a different cast of characters, in a story that now takes place ten years after the events of the previous movies. That would prove to be an interesting update on the world established in Pacific Rim - especially if the soldiers are then forced to pair up and use an older Jaeger that needs two pilots.
