6 in 10 Americans disapprove of Donald Trump, suggests Rasmussen poll

The findings come after President Donald Trump made a decision to bar transgender people from military service.

A large majority of American voters believe transgender people should be allowed to serve in the military and they overwhelmingly disapprove of the way Republican lawmakers have handled healthcare by 5-1, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released Thursday.

Trump's latest Quinnipiac approval rating is worse than the 55-to-40 percent disapproval mark recorded in its last survey in late June.

According to the Quinnipiac University survey, Trump was accused of mishandling key issues like foreign policy, economy, immigration, healthcare and terrorism. The pollster said that Americans by a 54-to-26 percent margin said they are embarrassed rather than proud to have Trump as president.

More than 50 percent of those surveyed also said the U.S. president had attempted to derail or obstruct the investigation into the Russian interference in the 2016 election.

President Trump's approval rating this week has dipped below the lowest numbers of former President, according to a Republican-leaning polling firm's regular tracking.

Only 22 percent of American voters said President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress should repeal all of the Affordable Care Act. The polls used in his average split Trump's approval rating into four categories: strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove and strongly disapprove.

Fifty percent of white voters without a college degree, a group that was instrumental in Trump's victory in 2016, now disapprove of the president's job performance. Twenty-seven percent said they thought transgender individuals should not serve.

That's down from 78 in the first Quinnipiac poll of the Trump administration (the margin of error among Republicans in this new poll is 6.9 points).

"It's hard to pick what is the most alarming number in the troubling trail of new lows for President Donald Trump", Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Poll, said.

Ever since May, polling trends have shown that Trump's base continues to shrink, as Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight wrote.

Among all Americans, 68 percent think transgender people should be allowed to serve in the military, compared to 27 percent who think the opposite.
