Spotify is headed to Xbox One

The Spotify app has been available on PlayStation 4 since 2015, so its arrival on Microsoft's current console seems overdue for Xbox gaming Spotify subscribers. Pictures of Microsoft's Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) testing a Spotify app for Xbox One were spotted on Reddit earlier this week, fuelling speculation that a real Spotify Xbox app is on the way.

Microsoft is set to bring the popular music streaming app Spotify on to Xbox One platforms, for all users to enjoy. Microsoft probably wants it ready to roll out by the time the Xbox One X launches, and that's happening on November 7.

Do you or would you use Spotify on your console?

On the PS4, both the free and paid versions of Spotify function in much the same way they function elsewhere - the paid app is commercial-free, while the free version has occasional ad breaks. "I'm thrilled today to introduce a new music destination called PlayStation Music, with Spotify as the exclusive partner", Sony's ‎Senior Vice President of Marketing and Head of PlayStation Network, Eric Lempel, said. Although it was implied that the deal between Sony and Spotify would be exclusive, a specific date was never formally announced, and with the news that Spotify will soon be available on Xbox One, it looks like whatever deal Sony had with Spotify is coming to an end.

Microsoft also released a desktop app for Spotify through the Windows Store in June.
