Updates from Premier League opener at Selhurst Park

Huddersfield Town captain Mark Hudson has retired on the eve of the new Premier League season after agreeing to join his club's coaching staff.

Huddersfield finished fifth in the Championship but progressed through the playoffs to reach the top flight and Wagner insists he is in no hurry to change tactics this season.

"We showed the right team spirit, the right togetherness, and we were very aggressive".

The Eagles faithful will be hopeful they can perform better than their last campaign, where the prospect of relegation to the Championship seemed a reality, however with a new manager at the helm, things could be on the up for the south London club.

"The pundits are there to voice their opinion, this is obviously their opinion, as it was last season". This is why we bought him, to score goals. "He has been at Huddersfield Town for a number of years now, so he knows everyone at the Club and is a very good character in the group; that's why he is the right man to lead our team out on the pitch".

Frank de Boer will be the seventh different manager in nine seasons in the dugout for Crystal Palace on opening day in the Premier League (Steve Coppell, Alan Smith, Iain Dowie, Ian Holloway, Keith Millen and Alan Pardew).

To be fair to Huddersfield, they came with a game plan and executed it well, with Palace boss Frank de Boer admitting afterwards that the Terriers deserved their win and that the Eagles have had a "very hard lesson".

"I am looking forward to having the opportunity to play with the number of talented ball players that are already in this squad at the club".

"The performance was good today and the result excellent", he said.

Huddersfield's last top-flight match was in April 1972 and also away at Crystal Palace, when these two sides played out a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park.

- The Terriers are just the fifth newly promoted side to win on the opening day of the Premier League since 2008-09 (also West Ham in 2012, Blackpool in 2010 and Hull in 2008 and 2016).

This will be the first Premier League match for both de Boer and Wagner.
