Google Allo is now available on the web

In February, Nick Fox, Google's VP of Communications Products, teased a screenshot of a desktop web app for Google Allo. The functionality is definitely not live as yet, with the URL allo.google.com/web giving a 404 error when navigating to it. Allo on the web uses a QR code pairing process, similar to WhatsApp, to connect to the mobile device.

To start with, open the Allo app on your Android phone, go to Menu Allo for Web scan the code with your phone. You'll also need to pair the service with Google Chrome with a simple QR scan, and after that you'll be good to go. As the site explains, Allo "learns if you're more of a "haha" or "lol" person so the more you use Google Allo, the more "you" the suggestions become". A majority of these feature are available on Allo for web as well, but taking photos, deleting conversations or starting chats with someone who isn't in your contact list won't be.

Tech-giant Google has unveiled 'Allo', its smart messaging app on its Chrome web browser, exclusively for its Android user base. There is an interface that has two panes on it, with the chat box on the right and the contacts on the left. Fulay on Tuesday, Aug. 15, announced via Twitter that Allo is now available on the web but only for Android users for the time being.

Google's scattershot messaging strategy has one less problem. It can also help in suggesting restaurants and movies inside the chat.

But given Google's worldwide reach with Android, Allo topped 10 million installs via Google Play downloads a year ago, and Duo recently hit 100 million. Allo for web is here! Allo users can also animate the emojis by just touching and holding the send button. That's a figure Google doesn't reveal. Since Allo has about 21 million downloads overall, India is definitely getting a foothold in one of the biggest emerging markets in the world.
