Google is testing a data-friendly version of its Search app

Google hasn't made any official announcement yet but this Search Lite appears to be in its testing phase already.

So the good news is that this app offers some major improvements upon its mainstream counterpart.

That's because the company is now piloting such an app in Indonesia, as the eagle-eyed team at Android Police first spotted.

This is not the first time the company is working on a lighter version of one of its apps, it has introduced a YouTube Lite app previous year in India and other emerging markets.

Apart from being a reliable platform to search whatever the user likes to find, it will also serve as a source for latest news, weather updates and provide nearby locations.

"No matter where you're headed or what you're looking to do, Google Maps and Search highlights the information you need to make quick decisions and discover the world around you", Google added. Besides, it may not reach those in countries where internet is fast enough to access content without having to use a lite mode.

For now, Google has not revealed its plan for the new app, but it seems to be in the nascent stages of development and limited to limited markets and languages. The feature is looking to have great potential to establish and build communities not only for business purposes but also for sharing common ideas and interests. The main motive behind light apps is to cater to the users having low connectivity and low end devices. It feels like the regular Google Search + Feed app that is widely known, but with less preloaded data and easier control over what users can see.
