The PlayStation 4 system software update 5.0 beta is rolling out today, and Sony has provided information on what's included. The 5.00 update addresses this is by overhauling and retooling the entire master/sub account system.

Sony also announced that select users who are part of the beta program will be able to try out the beta version of the 5.0 system update.

As noted below, firmware update 5.0 introduces Family Accounts, friend management, new features for broadcast, notifications, messages and other additions.

Sony has added new features to make sure that the PlayStation Network is more family friendly.

When the update is live, it will make it easier to set up PSN accounts for children and customize parental control settings for each user. All controls can be individually controlled for each child account.

Users will also be given greater control over managing their friends list thanks to the addition of a "Custom lists" tab where the "Favorite Groups" tab now exists. Here, users can create and edit custom lists of friends when can be arranged into specific groups. Changes are also coming for VR, managing friends, and more.

Also on tap are a bunch of broadcast feature updates, including the ability to pin your community to your broadcast, so spectators can jump right to your community page to find out about it.

A new setting in the PlayStation VR: Display Message to Spectators and Spectators Comments has been added. Those using Twitch will have the ability to stream at 1080p 60FPS on PS4 Pro after the firmware update.

Good news Twitch users: with this update, PS4 Pro will support 1080p 60fps streaming on Twitch. With the new update, users will be able to directly send songs and Spotify links via the PlayStation 4's messaging system, in addition to the PlayStation mobile app. Users can also choose between white or black as the color of pop-up notifications.

Most of the tweaks are solidly quality-of-life improvements, though some are better late than never: You'll finally be able to switch off notifications when watching a movie or TV show, for example.

PlayStation VR now supports 5.1ch and 7.1ch virtual surround sound through your headphones when watching Blu-rays and DVDs in Cinematic Mode, making for an even more immersive viewing experience. Recipients will be able to listen to the track directly in the message. Plus, one can also leave a party from within that menu and see their current Spotify playlist.

Finally, several new system language options have been added to the console, which include: Czech, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Romanian, Thai, and Vietnamese.

The Tournament system has also been overhauled, adding to it a new bracket viewer that illustrates Single and Double Elimination Tournaments, making easier to see current tournament standings. The Quick Menu now also has a "Leave Party" option, so users can easily exit a party and continue playing their game.
