Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to Manchester United on 1-year deal

Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to Manchester United on 1-year deal

"It was always mine and the club's intention for me to stay", Ibrahimovic said.

Off to a flying start in the Premier League with back-to-back 4 - 0 wins over West Ham United and Swansea City, expectations are high for the former Champions League winners.

Bookmakers believe that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have little trouble hitting the goals trail again for Manchester United when he returns from injury.

The Swede injured his knee in April, but is hoping to still play for the Red Devils this season. He was on crutches during United's victory over Ajax in the Europa League final in Stockholm.

He underwent surgery which was expected to keep him out for the rest of the year and, in Thursday's statement, Ibrahimovic suggested he is not ready to make an immediate return.

Ibrahimovic has recovered quickly and is said to be targeting a return to action around late October.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic gives his thoughts on Man United's new signings, his relationship with Lukaku and Pogba, and more.

Ibrahimovic, who will wear No. 10, which was vacated by Wayne Rooney, said he had no issues with giving up the number he'd worn for the majority of his career.

"From the first year going to United, the team has been winning trophies and learning the sacrifice it takes to win a trophy, and the mental part, and that is where I think the coach brought the team, the mental thing and me as a player".

"I feel good. I work hard, I haven't had a day off since the injury". However, United have been astonished by Ibrahimovic's recovery and the Jose Mourinho says the Swede will be "important" in the second phase of the season.

"After his contribution last season he deserves our trust and we will be patient waiting for him to return".

In Ibrahimovic's absence, United have made a flying start to the Premier League season.

The sensational signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton has significantly bolstered their attack, making it much harder for Ibrahimović to force his way back into the side.
