All the details on today's YouTube redesign here — New YouTube Logo

YouTube bundled together a bunch of big changes to its look and feel in a release today. That will be a very interesting experiment, indeed, given how many of us are used to swiping back in forth in Google Play Movies and often forget the different interface when we switch back to YouTube. Today, the company has announced the new logo redesign, which still isn't a huge change, along with talking about some of its more recent changes and some of their upcoming changes too. With it comes the exciting addition of a Dark Theme - a feature I hope makes its way to the service's mobile apps soon.

The desktop version of YouTube has changed A LOT over the the last 12 years. That's all topped off by the redesign YouTube logo you see above.

For those who enjoy YouTube on desktop, the ability to control the playback speed of your video is also coming to mobile - a boon for those who may want to crunch an hour-long lecture video into a 30-minute crash course.

The mobile app will be receiving a slew of new features, including navigation tabs to the bottom of the screen as well as two new tabs called Library and Account.

Videos that move with you: One of the things we're working on is bringing gestures to YouTube. In the future, you will be able to jump between videos with just a swipe of your finger, swiping left to watch the previous video, or right to watch the next one. "The updated logo and icon are rolling out across desktop and mobile starting today; before arriving on other apps and services". A new feature also showcases a row of suggested videos while you're watching something in full screen. The area below the player will eventually been transformed so you can "browse videos in totally new ways".

According to the company, the new logo allows for a more flexible design that works better across a variety of devices, even on the tiniest screens.
