Aston Martin will only sell hybrids by the mid-2020s

That doesn't mean all Aston Martins will be hybrids, but all will at least be offered with some sort of hybrid powertrain.

What do you think of Aston's electric intentions?

Volvo recently announced that within the next few years all of its models will be electrified and now Aston Martin has made a similar announcement.

"We will be 100 percent hybrid by the middle of the 2020s", Palmer stated to Financial Times.

Aston Martin's announcement is significant because it's a high-end luxury performance auto maker, however, whose target demographic is precisely motoring enthusiasts. Aston Martin is already working on an EV, with a fully electric version of the Rapide sedan called the RapidE set to hit the streets in 2019. These will be limited-edition models, however. Aston Martin has been known not only as the prefered auto brand of James Bond, but also as a maker of high-end sports cars packing thirsty V12 engines under the hood.

Rather than buying in electric systems from technology partner Daimler, which now supplies its V8 engine and some of the electronics, Aston plans to develop its electric driving systems in-house. Rivals Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche are also treading down the electrification path. Now also appears to be a good time to be a British auto maker looking to expand an EV lineup; the United Kingdom government has been helping several firms with grants to encourage low-carbon technologies. Additionally, about a quarter of the supercar maker's vehicles will be fully electric by the end of the next decade. A V-6 would provide efficiency and packaging benefits over a larger unit.

Rather, it would provide better packaging options, and not to mention certain markets - China, for instance - heavily tax cars based on engine displacement.
