Uber finally confirms Dara Khosrowshahi as Chief Executive Officer

Khosrowshahi reportedly said Expedia's CFO will also be coming to Uber.

That said, Khosrowshahi will sit for a fireside interview with Uber director and nap fanatic Arianna Huffington, in what is hopefully a gaffe-free chat.

Uber officially has a new CEO in Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber's board announced Tuesday night.

Khosrowshahi was nine years old when he and his family immigrated to the United States on the eve of the Iranian Revolution, according to Uber.

The preliminary investigation is the latest in a series of legal wrangles at Uber as the ride-services company waits for its new chief executive to take the reins.

"Casting a vote for the next chief executive of Uber was a big moment for me and I couldn't be happier to pass the torch to such an inspiring leader", Kalanick said. He took over Expedia in 2005 and became the highest-paid CEO in 2015 when the worldwide travel aggregator awarded him a $94.6 million salary for signing a long-term agreement.

In an email to Expedia staff, Khosrowshahi said he was "scared" and had "forgotten what life is outside of this place [Expedia]".

Khosrowshahi's ascent to the top spot at Uber is also equally surprising given that there were other names doing the rounds. Although he didn't go into more detail about why he wouldn't be taking up the role, the New York Times speculated Immelt didn't get enough votes from the Uber board.

The Benchmark lawsuit filed in a DE court accused Kalanick of fraud, breach of contract and of plotting to manipulate the board of directors to allow him to return as CEO following his resignation in June.

Yahoo reporter JP Mangalindan, who obtained some leaked audio of an Uber all-hands meeting in July when Kalanick resigned, still apparently has a leaking source inside the company from whom he was getting the blow-by-blow of this morning's meeting.

The San Francisco-based company, which has been run by a 14-person executive committee, is ready for a single leader again.

The back-and-forth has also featured interjections from people loyal to Mr. Kalanick who are seeking Benchmark's removal from the Uber board.

In a following tweet she made this even clearer: "We have a lot of work still to do at HPE and I am not going anywhere".

Uber's newly appointed chief executive has confessed that he is "scared" about taking the job as he faces the hard task of repairing the taxi-hailing app's public image following a string of scandals.

Earnings figures confirmed by AFP showed that adjusted net revenue was $1.75 billion in the second quarter, more than doubling from about $800 million in the same period in 2016.
