Apple expected to unveil next iPhones at September 12 showcase

Apple expected to unveil next iPhones at September 12 showcase

After months of rumours and speculation, Apple has confirmed that its next big press event is set for September 12th at 10am PT/1pm ET, September 12th at Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park, the tech giant's new, spaceship-like Cupertino campus.

The firm will also reportedly unveil an updated version of the Apple Watch, along with the latest version of iOS.

The September 12 event invitation doesn't reveal much in the way of a teaser.

TechCrunch was first to reveal that invites for the launch had been sent out, having previously reported that the event would fall on this day.

The tenth anniversary iPhone is expected to feature an OLED panel (the first time any iPhone has sported one) with an edge-to-edge display, a facial detection system, an "L"-shaped battery with long life, the Apple A11 chipset, and certain AR features".

This year, we expect a special anniversary-edition iPhone 8, which will follow the traditional announcing of the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus upgraded models. They're expected to be less expensive. As is the case every year, it is nearly time for the new iPhone to get unveiled and we might see a few other announcements happening as well on the same day, when Apple for the first time is going to have the presser at the Steve Jobs Theater.

Additionally, the company is rumored to have a new 4K Apple TV in the works, along with Apple Watches that could feature LTE connectivity.

As per a report in Chinese website GeekBar, the upcoming iPhone will come in three storage capacities 64GB, 128GB and 512GB. Streaming via Apple TV requires an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with software 6.2 or later or an Apple TV (4th generation).

The Journal reports that Apple is actively negotiating with Hollywood studios to agree on pricing for such ultra-high-definition content. Apple is seeking to charge users about $20 a movie, while the studios want $5 to $10 more, per the Journal.
