Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez expected to join Chelsea after £45m bid

Algerian national team has released winger, Riyad Mahrez so he can complete his move away from Leicester City.

Chelsea and Tottenham were linked with Mahrez on Thursday morning, while at lunchtime it was claimed he had landed at Barcelona Airport, raising talk of a switch to the Camp Nou.

Algeria - bottom of Group B with one point after two matches - will now fly out to Lusaka without Mahrez for their clash with Zambia on Saturday.

Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek "These days transfer deals rarely get so far without fans knowing where the player is heading, but former PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez's destination remains unknown".

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Mahrez and are in a ideal position to make a move on transfer deadline day if we wanted.

Mahrez handed in a transfer request at Leicester days after the end of last season.

Mahrez has declared his intent to depart the 2015-16 Premier League champions, but the Foxes have turned down three bids from Roma - the last of which was worth €40m. Chelsea are believed to be frantically working on potential deals on Thursday, aiming to bolster their depleted squad numbers before the transfer window closes.

Barcelona sold Neymar to Paris Saint Germain and on Monday signed Ousmane Dembele from Borrusia Dortmund.
