Colts remove Andrew Luck from 'PUP' list

If there is any silver lining, the Colts are at least optimistic that he will be back in the fold in the first month and a half of the season. But this one-New England sending QB Jacoby Brissett to Indianapolis for WR Philip Dorsett, which has been confirmed by both teams-has significant ripple effects in the landscape of the 2017 National Football League season. Scott Tolzien is in line to start in Luck's presumed absence. It is unclear if Luck will play in the opening game. The Colts have avoided this particular doomsday scenario by activating him from the PUP list on Saturday.

That changed just eight days before the start of the regular season. It's going to take time for Luck to regain his form. Third-string quarterback Stephen Morris may even be an option if Tolzien continues to play poorly. When the Colts kicked off training camp back in July, the team placed Luck on the physically unable to perform list. Time is running out for him to be ready to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, and there is a growing concern that he could miss multiple games. Morris was consistent throughout the preseason, throwing for 399 yards and completing almost 68 percent of his pass attempts. And the Patriots' willingness to give up Brissett, a relatively high draft pick who already has meaningful experience in their system, seems to indicate that they will make an effort to keep Garoppolo, who's a free agent after 2017, in New England after this season.

In 15 games last season, Luck threw for 282.7 yards per game and had 31 touchdowns compared to 13 interceptions.
