Bell Pottinger confirms that it is for sale

The PRCA expelled Bell Pottinger for a minimum of five years.

The bank, which previously enlisted Bell Pottinger in London for short-term media engagement campaigns, confirmed that it has stopped working with the firm.

Banking giant HSBC, Clydesdale Bank, TalkTalk and construction company Carillion are the latest companies to sever ties with the British PR firm in light of devastating findings into its account for the Gupta family, according to The Guardian UK.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has alleged that Bell Pottinger stoked racial hatred in South Africa in the work they did for the Gupta family and Duduzane Zuma, President Jacob Zuma's son.

Work carried out by Bell Pottinger for Bank of Ireland includes work with Capital Economics on an extensive risk assessment and contingency planning exercises to prepare for the impact of Brexit.

In July, the firm's chief executive James Henderson issued an "unequivocal and absolute" apology to anyone affected, fired the lead partner involved in the campaign and suspended another partner and two other employees.

What makes this outcome more rewarding is that this woeful outcome for Bell Pottinger has been wrought without the need for society to introduce expensive litigation action for the transgressor to suffer the consequences of its unwarranted conduct.

In a statement, Bell Pottinger said it accepted there were lessons to be learned, but disputed "the basis on which the ruling was made".

Waitrose, which prides itself on its ethical stance, would not say whether it will definitely continue to employ the embattled agency.

"Due to reasons of confidentiality we do not comment on business matters of this nature", a BDO spokesperson said.

Arqiva, the owner of Britain's TV masts, is also understood to be considering its relationship with Bell Pottinger. They are Richemont, the Swiss luxury company headed by South African businessman Johann Rupert; Investec, the South African investment group; and Acacia, which owns goldmines in Tanzania. Another shareholder - Mark Smith - remains in place as chairman, but a number of senior figures have departed the agency in recent days, including corporate and financial head John Sunnucks - one of Bell Pottinger's key rainmakers.
