Virat Kohli fastest to 15000 global runs

Munaweera and Priyanjan's 37-run stand for the fourth wicket was the only highlight of the Sri Lankan innings which once again derailed at a crucial juncture, thanks to the Indian spin duo of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and chinaman Kuldeep Yadav.

There was no respite for them, however, as Kohli blasted 82 and Manish Pandey smashed 51 not out to help India romp home with four balls to spare.

Helping him in the chase were KL Rahul (24), who helped consolidate after Rohit Sharma fell with his individual score reading just nine, and Manish Pandey, who forged an invaluable 119-run second-wicket partnership with his skipper to accelerate the chase after joining forces at 42 for two.

Kohli, however, departed towards the end of the run chase as Dasun Shanaka took a fantastic catch at deep mid-wicket.

Dhoni (1 not out) and Pandey completed the formalities without duress with the latter reaching his maiden T20 global fifty off 36 balls, inclusive of four boundaries and a six.

6907 - Runs made by Kohli in T20s - the most by an Indian. 239 for 4 in 46.3 overs (Virat Kohli 110 not out, Kedar Jadhav 63; Wanindu Hasaranga 1/29, Lasith Malinga 1/35). But what would surely put his name on top is that, he is the only batsman on the list with an average of over 50.

The players and fans will be hoping that rain stops and they have a full game or a shortened one. With 1830 runs, Kohli is now the third-highest run-getter in T20Is behind McCullum and Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Kohli is often dubbed as the chase master for his wizardy with the willow whilst chasing down a total.

Kohli also crossed Martin Guptill's tally of 1806 runs to become the third-highest scorer in T20Is behind Brendon McCullum (2140) and Tilakratne Dilshan (1889). He now has 1007 runs in 21 innings at 91.54, while the Kiwi worldwide has 1006 runs in 17 innings.

Sri Lanka on Monday named a 15-member squad led by the newly appointed Twenty20 skipper Upul Tharanga for a one-off match against India at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Earlier, India won the toss and chose to field.
