NIA moves against aides of separatist leaders

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday raided the house of senior Hurriyat leader and Shia cleric Syed Agha Hassan in Budgam as well as the houses of other pro-freedom leaders and their aides in Kashmir as part of its "terror funding" case probe.

In its FIR, the NIA mentioned that Hafiz Saeed and separatist leaders, including members of the Hurriyat Conference, have been acting in connivance with active militants of proscribed terrorist organisations Let, HM, Dukhtaran-e-Millat and other terrorist organisations for raising, receiving and collecting funds domestically and overseas through various illegal channels for funding terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. "A posse of policemen raided Abi Guzar office of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) in the heart of Srinagar and arrested Malik to desist him from spearheading the poll boycott campaign", a JKLF spokesman had said.

Two days back NIA had arrested two youth - Kamran Yousuf, a photojournalist from Pulwama and Javed Ahmed Bhat from Kulgam in South Kashmir. During searches fixed deposits of Rs 1 crore and "incriminating documents" and "suspicious financial records" and electronic devices were seized, the NIA said.

"Sumji's house and shopping complex in Bijbehara were searched for nearly five hours while shopkeepers in his complex were also questioned". The disclosure by Khan led to NIA raids at several places in Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Srinagar.

At around 8.00 PM, scores of Aga's followers gathered outside his house and at Imambara of Budgam and they held a strong protest against the NIA search operation.

During all these months NIA has been acting like notorious character "Gabber Singh" and this agency has so far not only arrested many resistance leaders and businessmen but ruined business and careers of many people. "The raids continued for over 9 hours", they said.

Houses of a chartered accountant and two businessmen were also searched in Kashmir. The houses reportedly belong to LoC traders.

Searches are still on and the suspects are being questioned about the incriminating recoveries made from them.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik have announced they would take out a protest march to the NIA headquarters in New Delhi and court arrest on September 9. The residential house of Imran Kawoosa, Kawoosa and sons at Nowhatta Srinagar was also raided by NIA.
