Kuwait Emir confirms Qatar ready to meet, discuss 13 demands

The Saudis, along with Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other countries in the region, have broken all commercial and diplomatic ties with Qatar over its alleged financing of terrorism and close ties to regional rival Iran.

The nations also said a military intervention "has not been and will not be considered" to end the crisis, something mentioned by Sheikh Sabah in his remarks.

The visit is in response to an invitation extended by US President Donald Trump in February, shortly after his inauguration, Shaikh Salem Abdullah Al Jaber Al Sabah told Kuwait News Agency (Kuna).

Trump said all the countries involved — members of the Gulf Cooperation Council — are "essential partners" with the United States in efforts to crack down on extremism, including the fight against Islamic State group.

Kuwait is now attempting to mediate a tense dispute in the Gulf Region - one which US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson tried and failed to help resolve.

Qatar, which is a US ally and hosts a large American military facility, has denied the allegations.

During the phone call, they discussed the latest developments related to the Gulf crisis in light of Kuwait's efforts to resolve it through diplomatic channels and through dialogue between all parties to ensure the security and stability of the region.

The Kuwaiti leader is thanking the United States for standing with their country when Iraq's Saddam Hussein launched an invasion.

Trump initially appeared to side with Saudi Arabia, but then instructed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to support the Kuwaiti mediation effort.

President Donald Trump will host Kuwait Ruler Amir al-Sabah at the White House on Thursday afternoon.

Shaikh Sabah - who is accompanied by a high-calibre official and business delegation - and President Trump will meet at the White House on Thursday.

The dispute has dragged even after Tillerson and other US diplomats have shuttled through the region to bolster the Kuwaiti initiative.

Trump also talked about North Korea, saying that military action is not inevitable. Some 6,000 North Koreans work in Kuwait.
