Nintendo promises 'dramatically increased' SNES Classic production

Scalpers already took a hit when it comes to the SNES Classic when eBay made a decision to delete early listings from scammers, but it looks like the Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, is giving them a kick.

When pre-orders for the SNES Classic went live in the United States, units were gone in a matter of minutes.

"I would strongly urge you not to over-bid on an SNES Classic on any of the auction sites", he said."You shouldn't pay more than $79.99".

The NES Classic Edition was a hit a year ago not only because it included a raft of popular games from the 80s and 90s, but also because it was a capable game emulation machine.

The pre-order process for Nintendo's SNES Classic Edition was, in a word, a nightmare. According to him, there will be enough SNES Classic consoles to grab, so no one has to resort to auction sites. "In this case it's not [a supply issue]", Fils-Aime said.

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America President and COO, recently spoke about the technology at Variety's Entertainment and Tech Summit but, sadly, he didn't have much good to say on the subject. Nintendo claimed that the console was gone quickly because of a bot that placed online orders faster than humans could.

Last year's NES Classic was arguably the hottest - and hardest to find - gift of the holiday season.

And yet. Many of us were burned by Nintendo promises previous year. In July, an online retailer put "thousands" of NES Classic consoles up for sale, all of them bundled into high-priced packages that included other assorted swag.

The Nintendo Switch has been heavily in demand since its March release, with many places experiencing stock shortages around the world due to a diminishing supply chain.

As for Nintendo Switch, availability is a bit less certain.
