Shehzad lifts Pakistan to series win

With the successful conclusion of the Independence Series between Pakistan and World XI, hopes for more worldwide matches at home in future have increased.

After Ahmed Shehzad and Babar Azam powered the hosts to 183/4, Pakistan bowlers restricted ICC World XI to 150/8 in 20 overs.

Pakistan: Ahmed Shehzad, Babar Azam, Sarfraz Ahmed (capt, wk), Shoaib Malik, Usman Khan, Fahim Ashraf, Umar Amin, Mohammad Nawaz, Imad Wasim, Aamer Yamin, Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Rumman Raees, Sohail Khan. "For a lot of guys who don't play a lot of worldwide cricketthese days, this was terrific competition against a strong Pakistan side".

With the series ending on a successful note, Pakistan have taken another step towards hosting global games on regular basis with the World XI players and support staffs deserving a lot of credit.

On the very next ball, Hashim Amla was victim to the huge mix-up between him and du Plessis. "This series has reduced the suffocation as nearly every Pakistani enjoyed watching the cricket", said Mudassir Hussain, a 22-year old cricket lover.

With the World XI side having five South African stars - skipper Du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir, Morne Morkel and David Miller - in its fold, there is no questioning that while this is an worldwide effort, to help Pakistan out of its isolation, its roots are firmly entrenched in Southern Africa.

Shehzad, who hit eight fours in his 55-ball knock, upped the scoring rate in the last three overs when he smashed three successive sixes off Australian seamer Ben Cutting in the 18th over. The two added 102 runs for the second wicket after Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman for 27.

Former cricketer Shahid Afridi has finally received a send off by the Pakistan Cricket Board for his contribution to cricket. The two were given a standing ovation by a packed 25,000 crowd.

Although the PCB did manage to bring Zimbabwe to Lahore for a short limited over series in May, 2015, those matches were not approved by the International Cricket Council.

Speaking on a television channel last night, Sethi said the itinerary for the matches against West Indies would be announced soon.
