London subway explosion: 18 people taken to hospital after apparent attack

President Trump said via a tweet, "Another attack in London by a loser terrorist. These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard".

Nick Timothy, a former senior aide to the British premier, dismissed Trump's tweets, saying it was "so unhelpful from [the] leader of our ally and intelligence partner".

Terrorism analyst Magnus Ranstorp of the Swedish Defense University said that from the photos it appeared the bomb did not fully detonate, as much of the device and its casing remained intact.

President Donald Trump responded to a terror attack in a London underground station on Friday by promoting his travel ban.

Mr. Trump also tweeted that his administration had already "made more progress" against the Islamic State than President Barack Obama's administration had in eight years.

During the telephone call, Trump conveyed his sympathies and prayers for those injured in the attack, the White House said in a statement.

Trump was tweeting after a homemade bomb exploded on a packed London subway train during rush hour on Friday.

The blast in a crowded train at Parsons Green station in west London that left several passengers injured is another heinous act by cowardly terrorists.

Ms May said a major covert investigation was taking place and warned the public of an armed police presence on the transport network and London's streets.

Trump had referred to his travel ban back in June immediately after the London Bridge terror attacks. "As London has proven again and again, we will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism", he said.

Local residents and businesses rallied together with businesses offering tea and the use of their toilets to people unable to get home. "It keeps going and going, and we have to be very smart and we have to be very, very tough perhaps we're not almost tough enough", Trump told reporters in the Rose Garden of the White House. The administration has yet to say whether it will seek to renew the bans, make them permanent or expand the travel ban to other countries.

Under the order, foreign nationals are banned for 90 days from six countries - Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya, and Yemen - and refugees lacking a link to the USA are barred for 120 days.

He also renewed his call for a tougher travel ban in the United States.
