Two terrorists arrested for Banihal terror attack

The Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested two militants who allegedly are responsible for carrying out the recent attack on SSB personnel in Banihal and snathcing their rifles, officials said. The terrorists have been identified as Arif and Ghazanfar'.

The police also said that they recovered two mobile phones in a bag near the site of the incident.

Initially police suspected the incident was a case of fratricide.

The attack, according to police on Wednesday evening, killed a paramilitary trooper belonging to India's Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and wounded another in Banihal area of Ramban district, about 107 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. "Barely after 30 hours after the attack, security forces in a joint operation with local police zeroed in on the attackers and arrested two". "They went missing after attacking the SSB men and snatching their weapons".

He said that both of them belong to Banihal and were radicalised and motivated during their education days.

The police officer said they are continuing the manhunt to track down the third youth (Aqib) involved in the attack.

"They told us that they had got pistol from Delhi".

Asked whether the module comprised three people only, SSP said, "It is under investigation whether the module comprised three or more people". "We shall not allow any terror module to come up in Jammu region", he added.
