Monty Hall, Iconic Let's Make a Deal Host, Dead at 96

The host of the legendary game show " Let's Make a Deal" fame Monty Hall Hall dies due to sudden heart failure, in Beverly Hills on Saturday, September 30, he was 96.

Later on, he began hosting for network game shows such as "Split Second", "Masquerade Party" and "Beat the Clock".

The show has been revived multiple times. The had been aired in prime time for around next 40 years. Wayne Brady took over as host of the most recent version of the show in 2009.

"Let's Make a Deal" is also known for audience members, who dress up in outrageous or insane costumes in order to increase their chances of being selected as a trader.

Hall was named to the order of Canada in 1988, and in 2013 he won a lifetime achievement award at the Daytime Emmys. But it was Hall who was lastingly identified as "TV's big dealer", as the show put it, something he found at least mildly disconcerting.

When they did, it could be television gold. The traders or contestants were offered choices by host Hall.

They could win a prize such as a Cadillac, but they might win a "zonk", a joke gift such as a farm animal. The "Monty Hall Problem", which ends with a counter-intuitive solution, includes three doors, two goats, and a auto.

On a few occasions the show's antics turned problematic.

Born on August 25, 1921, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, young Monte Halperin was a theater kid through-and-through. He moved to Toronto, then to NY, and then to Hollywood, yearning for his big break.

"Let's Make a Deal" premiered in 1963. But the enduring, mystifying appeal of Hall was how much, how deeply, the contestants loved him, even though they shouldn't have: He was a resident trickster god, a double-agent, always working against them to ensure the show would land, would have stakes, would get people talking.
